Local governments and climate change: presentation and discussion of research findings

During March, ego co-organised a series of sessions with stakeholders to present and discuss the preliminary results of the research project ‘The preparedness of coastal local governments for climate change’. As the level of government closest to citizens, local governments play a crucial role in addressing the effects of climate change. The project, a partnership between CSIR Natural Resources and the Environment (South Africa) and the Centre for the Sustainable Development of Coastal Zones (Mozambique), aims to analyse the capacity of local governments to respond to climate change, including the major constraints they face in this respect. The study is funded by the Coastal Science for Management Program (MASMA) of the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA).
